Oklahoma Stud was formed in 1974 by a group of some of the greatest horsemen of their era. The list of partners included the renowned Dr. John Beall, DVM, World Champion Cowboy Louis Brooks, Sr., racing insiders Joe L. and Joe F. Gary from Oklahoma, Jack McReynolds, also of Oklahoma, and the highly regarded race horse breeder Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. of Midland Texas.

Oklahoma Stud Ranch
The group purchased almost a section of raw land in the soft rolling hills southwest of Purcell, Oklahoma. Managing partner Jack McReynolds set about building what is still considered one of the most beautiful breeding facilities in the racing world. The farm opened in 1975 and was immediately recognized as the elite of breeding operations in the Quarter Horse business. It was widely publicized with race fans coming to see this state-of-the-art facility from across the country.
The horses that stood at Oklahoma Stud were among the top in the nation. With stud fees starting at $1,500 and ranging upward to $10,000 for the 1976 breeding season, Oklahoma Stud broke new ground in the racing world. The stellar roster included Victory Stride, Double Bid, Tiny Charger, Alamitos Bar, Fleet Kirsch (TB),
Hy Lucky Jay, Bolductive, Nativo (TB), and Go For Two. This set of stallions, each a headliner in his own right, put Oklahoma Stud on the map as one of the premier breeding programs in the country. The sons and daughters of Oklahoma Stud's original roster are still seen in the top pedigrees today.
The Scharbauers
The original partnership was bought out by Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauer with partner Bud Boschert, and made more headlines by purchasing Boschert’s stock in the partnership and owned this showplace by themselves. Their names are familiar in the breeding world of both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. Alysheba, their 1987 Kentucky Derby winner who went on to the Horse of the Year in 1988, illustrates the prestige of the Scharbauer name in the racing world.

Paws Up Quarter Horses
In 1998, Dave and Nadine Lipson, purchased the ranch and ran it under the Paws Up Quarter Horses flag. They stood Barpassers Image, Zippo Award, and several other great Quarter Horse stallions. During that time Paws Up Quarter Horses was the training facility for Gil Galyean Quarter Horses and was the program from which produced greats such as One Hot Krymsun, Radical Revolution, and Investing Wisely, all AQHA World Champions.
In January 2006, Gonya Enterprises Inc., purchased the ranch and are bringing this historical farm full circle. Today, there’s a familiar look to the horses grazing in the lush pastures. As in its beginning, Oklahoma Stud is once again home to sleek running horses and race stallions. But equally at home on these 450 acres, you will find the quiet, softly cadenced pleasure horses of the more recent history of the ranch. In both cases, Oklahoma Stud Ranch under the ownership of Gonya
Enterprises Inc., brings a commitment to excellence in breeding and stallion management.
